So what is the Frontlines Group?

Well, it's a group of people who que up for Frontlines together and use Team Speak while we're at it. Frontlines comes with some shiny rewards… and using Team Speak serves to make us more effective as a unit, and to make the whole experience more fun via banter and the such.

What rewards can Frontlines get you? PvP ranks, new Titles, Wolf Marks to spend on some very pretty gear, and Tomes. Even if your team loses, you get a nice reward… so by shooting the shit, and having a good time, you can nab some nice stuff! :D

It is worth knowing that since each team represents a Grand Company, everyone in the Frontlines Group needs to be in the same one. The Grand Company of the Frontlines Group is the Maelstrom, the G.C. of Limsa Lominsa.

This group has existed before, and that trial run was a huge success. Now let's bring it back bigger and better than before!

For those who are unfamiliar with Frontlines:

TLDR: capture flags, kill adds, kill other players

Frontlines is one mode of PvP in FFXIV.
72 people (three teams of 24) que into one large map to do battle. Each team represents one of the Grand Companies, and a team is comprised of 3 Alliances (like in Syrcus Tower). This battle comes with a few objectives.

The first major objective is to take and hold flags. These are stationary points on the map which can be claimed if your team has a higher-enough ratio of players within the given point as compared to the other teams. Your team will have 3 flags that serve as 'your territory', and other teams will have their own 3. Obviously you want to take and hold your territory… and if it seems like an advantageous idea, you can take enemy territory as well.

The second major objective is to kill adds that spawn on a high platform in the center of the map. These spawn periodically, and are worth a lot of points… they can make or break a match for you.

The final objective, and also the simplest objective, is to kill players from other teams (or to keep your team alive, if you're a healer)… the last objective is going to happen all over the place, so don't worry over it too much.

Tactics:

Truth be told, the tactics of Frontlines are not complex. When you get into a match, you become one of three alliances on your team. Each alliance has a designated objective.

  • Alliance A:
When the match begins, you flood out of the base and hook a left. There's a flag in this direction which is yours to claim and hold. This may be easier said than done, depending on the strength of your enemies. Beyond that, try to mind the chat box. Your alliance may be called upon to aid Alliance B or Alliance C.

  • Alliance B:
When the match begins, flood out of the base and head straight to the flag waiting right in front of you. This flag is yours to claim and hold, although you may need to reclaim it from time to time due to leaving it unguarded. This is because your most important task is to kill the adds when they spawn. Again, they spawn at the top of the huge platform in the center of the map (sometimes referred to as Top or Mid). The adds spawn every three minutes, so try to mind the timer. When you're not busy killing adds, try to maintain possession of your flag. You may also be called on to aid Alliance A or Alliance C… but since your alliance has more to keep track of, that chance is lower than it is for the other two alliances.

  • Alliance C:
When the match begins, you flood out of the base and hook a right. There's a flag in this direction which is yours to claim and hold. Again, this may be easier said than done, depending on the strength of your enemies. Like in Alliance A, you should try to mind the chat box. Your alliance may be called upon to aid Alliance A or Alliance B.

Now, this doesn't necessarily include all the little variances that will come from individual matches, or your other alliance members within any given match… but it gives you some pretty solid ground to work on. Use the info well! ^^
